I’m the type of person who just can’t stand waiting for my suitcase at the luggage carousel. It’s another, often not-so-tiny, delay that stands between me and all those dopamine-packed experiences awaiting me at my destination.

It so happens that, for a cheapskate bargain hunter like me, Ryanair, WizzAir, and easyJet come as the top three bus-in-the-sky providers, and 2 cabin bags seem like the right choice every time. And, for the most part, it is.

You know what's irritating, though? Sizes and weights. It’s not that the allowances are too small—they're pretty much what you'd expect them to be. It's the slight differences in luggage size and weight limits that vary from one airline to another. So, if you think, "For this Ryanair flight, I’ll just use the same bags I used for my last flight with WizzAir," there's a chance you might want to think again.

To be fair, it's almost a given that you aren't going to be scrutinised for every extra centimetre or an extra 500 grams, and as long as your bags visually appear the right size, no one is likely to bother you.

But the limits are what they are, and they can be slightly different depending on who you’re flying with. Plus, exceeding those limits can potentially cost you money. So, here’s a handy note about the cabin luggage limits for Ryanair, WizzAir, and easyJet, according to their websites at the time of writing.

Ryanair:

• Small personal bag: No larger than 40x20x25 cm (approx. 15.7x7.9x9.8 inches). Must fit under the seat in front of you. No specific weight limit seems to be mentioned for that, at least when and where I looked. But I'm ready to stand corrected.
• Larger 10kg bag: 55x40x20 cm (approx. 21.7x15.7x7.9 inches) allowed if you purchase 'Priority & 2 Cabin Bags', stored in the overhead locker.

WizzAir:

• Small carry-on bag: No larger than 40x30x20 cm (approx. 15.7x11.8x7.9 inches), no heavier than 10 kg, must fit under the seat in front of you.
• For those who bought Wizz Priority: Larger 10kg bag, 55x40x23 cm (approx. 21.7x15.7x9.1 inches), stored in the overhead locker.

easyJet:

• Small fits-under-the-seat bag: 45x36x20 cm (approx. 17.7x14.2x7.9 inches) max, including handles and wheels. Weight is limited to 15 kg.
• Large cabin bag (additional fee): 56x45x25 cm (approx. 22x17.7x9.8 inches), including handles and wheels. Weight is also limited to 15 kg.
